Some of the finest wild brown trout, sea trout and salmon fishing around is on the doorstep. The burns and lochs are not stocked and the lack of fish farms in the western watershed of the islands has kept the gene pool pure.
With 15% of the UK freshwater surface area on the islands there is plenty of choice for the keen fly fisherman, from sandy machair lochs to peaty hill lochs a good hour’s walk into the hills.
Salmon and sea trout up to 10lbs are caught regularly and hard fighting brown trout are a particular attraction in the machair lochs.
Fishing permits for all fishing on the Estate are available from the Stòras Uibhist office. Further information on where and how to fish the waters of Stòras Uibhist can be found at www.southuistfishing.com.
