As a local GP, my job begins with listening to people. I believe Stòras needs to listen too, and consult local opinion in a meaningful way.
There should be openness in their dealings, with real community participation. Problems identified early can be resolved early without damaging and expensive legal action.
Stòras Uibhist should encourage local small businesses, entrepreneurs and community groups to develop their ideas, sponsoring them and backing them to whatever degree possible.
We need many home-grown, Uist-sensitive and sustainable developments to answer our needs. This is the way to create jobs and a secure future, whilst nurturing local culture and our unique social and physical environment.
The abilities I can bring to the Board?
• The ability to listen
• Ability to consult, discuss, resolve.
• The ability to respond.
• And – with your help – to act on your behalf.

My reasons for standing are to help bring Storas Uibhist forward as a developing community company, helping to achieve the company’s goals, as well as the community’s, to the best of my ability.
I would like to represent the views of the youth in our community, if elected. I would like to highlight their importance of developing our community’s future. In addition, my experience in commercial business will contribute to further enhance Stòras Uibhist.
Finally I would also contribute to halving the Boards average age.

I have been with Stòras Uibhist from the outset and have served as a Director for three years.
I have been directly involved in the many achievements of your company to date and I am fully aware of the enormous amount of work still ahead to ensure that Stòras Uibhist is the most successful example of community land ownership.

I will endeavour to support the aims and objectives of Sealladh na Beinne Mòire, as detailed in trhe Memorandum and articles of Association, from my experience gained:
• As a Director of two charities
• From establishing and running my own business
• Heading up the South Uist office of the cultural heritage project Tobar an Dualchais
As a wife and a mother I hope to broaden the cross-section of the community represented at Board level. I will seek fairness, accountability and transparency on behalf of the community.

Three decades as owner and Managing Director of West Minch Salmon added to the preceding years in multinational corporate environments have given me extensive experience of the complexities involved in running a commercial company and many skills which I have been able to transfer to my work as director of Storas Uibhist.
In addition, I have long been involved in economic development through having led the Integrated Development Project locally and also through the development of my own company.
In the voluntary sector I have led several community projects since 1994, most significantly Uist 2000 and the Steering Committee for the community buyout of South Uist.
It is my hope that membership of Storas Uibhist will continue to increase steadily with crofters, non crofters and all eligible members of each household joining the company. Additionally I hope to see those members more involved in the company by their increased participation in working groups in which they have an interest or a level of expertise or another skill to contribute.
Storas Uibhist is on the point of delivering significant benefits for the community through the ongoing projects, Loch Carnan Wind Farm, Lochboisdale Port of Entry Project, Askernish Golf Course, Estate Management and Crofting. I am willing to continue working on behalf of the community for the benefit of all residents.
I would also like to continue lobbying on specific issues for example to secure the future of crofting, improved ferry services and the future of Range Hebrides.
Although my voluntary, unpaid role as director is an onerous commitment I have the drive and energy required to continue in this role in order to bring to fruition the initial aspirations, plans and projects of this historic and ground breaking company.
Inevitably such a company will attract controversy and challenge. For the long term benefit of South Uist we must continue to have courage in the face of these challenges.
